State-of-the-art coated steel

Advanced tonal shaping

Since 2012, we have been bringing bleeding-edge materials to the music world. Using our tried-and-tested marine-grade stainless steel core, we have now produced a range of slides like no other.

Our incredibly hard titanium nitride and tungsten carbide coatings enable us to focus the tone of our slides, as well as further decreasing the friction and increasing the durablility of our slides by an order of magnitude compared to a plain steel model.

Utterly stunning in appearance, tone and feel, our coated slides are the most technically innovative available anywhere in the world.

rich, smooth, warm tone

great clarity

hugely durable and wear-resistant

tapered for tone and comfort

very low friction and minimal string noise

a silky-smooth glide across the strings

Concept and design

Built on the same core as our Artist Series slides, machined from a solid billet of marine-grade stainless steel and polished by hand to a smooth, mirror finish, we then use a sputtering process to deposit a thin layer of tungsten carbide in a carbon matrix. This raises the surface hardness to around ten times that of plain steel, for excellent durability and resistance to wear. The coating further reduces the coefficient of friction for an even smoother glide and even lower string noise.

Tapered inner bore

The inner bore is tapered, so the slide is thicker and heavier at the fingertip. This balances the mass towards the end of the slide, where it is needed for exceptional single-note tone and sustain, without making the whole slide too heavy and bulky. The taper also means the slide follows the shape of your finger, for the most comfortable fit and feel possibe.

Straight playing surface

The straight outer surface is hand-polished to a mirror sheen, for the smoothest possible playing experience.

The precisely radiused and polished ends combine function and aesthetics. The thick end of the Martin Simpson slide features our signature compound edge radius - a combination of two precision-cut radii a central flat section, for a silky-smooth glide across the strings while keeping as much of the slide length 'in play' as possible. As well as enhancing the beauty and feel of the slide, they are a playing surface, making sensitive interaction with the strings possible for techniques such as hammer-ons and pull-offs.

Tone and performance

The tungsten carbide / carbon coating focuses the tone towards richness, smoothness and warmth, while retaining the core balance and strong fundamental of the steel core. Overtone content is strong and it engages beautifully with the strings needing virtually no pressure, for a really smooth, effortless playing action.

Long enough to cover all the strings, with the weight balanced towards the fingertip, the Martin Simson Signature Slide is an amazingly versatile tool. At 106 grams, it is heavy and dense enough to extract a beautiful note with very little pressure on the string, making it suitable for use on any guitar - even with light strings and a fingerstyle setup. Martin himself uses his Artist Series Signature Slide to great effect on acoustic guitar.

In play, the slide feels comfortable and agile, excelling at everything from lyrical melodic lines to fast blues rhythm and lead passages.

Sizing

The tungsten carbide / carbon coated Martin Simpson Artist Series Signature Slide is available in two sizes, medium and small. The unique tapered interior follows the shape of the finger and makes for a supremely comfortable fit on a wide range of finger sizes.

We recommend the medium size for use on the ring finger and for players who prefer a loose fit on the little finger; we recommend the small size for players who prefer a snug fit on the little finger.

The medium and small size slides are balanced to have exactly the same weight (106 grams), so you lose nothing in tone between the two sizes.

Concept and design

Built on the same core as our Artist Series slides, machined from a solid billet of marine-grade stainless steel and polished by hand to a smooth, mirror finish, we then use a chemical vapour deposition process to deposit a thin layer of titanium nitride. This raises the surface hardness to around twenty times that of plain steel, for superb durability and resistance to wear. The coating keeps the coefficient of friction very low for a smoother glide and lower string noise.

Tapered inner bore

The inner bore is tapered, so the slide is thicker and heavier at the fingertip. This balances the mass towards the end of the slide, where it is needed for exceptional single-note tone and sustain, without making the whole slide too heavy and bulky. As well as enhancing the beauty and feel of the slide, they are a playing surface, making sensitive interaction with the strings possible for techniques such as hammer-ons and pull-offs.

Tone and performance

The ultra-hard titanium nitride coating brings out a clear, authoritative and strident tone, with excellent bite and attack, without every becoming harsh. The core tonal balance and strong fundamental of the steel core remains evident. This slide is extremely responsive to playing style and technique, with an immensely controllable overtone content.

At 106 grams, it is heavy and dense enough to extract a beautiful note with very little pressure on the string, making it suitable for use on any guitar - even with light strings and a fingerstyle setup.
